Are you ready to vote in the next round of District Council Elections?

Voting eligibility is based on your residential address, not your mailing address. Make sure you don't miss out on updates about elections in your District by ensuring that your address, email and phone number are up to date with the Otipemisiwak Métis Government Registry Department.

ABOUT THE CHIEF ELECTORAL OFFICER (CEO)

Nicole Latour is an accomplished public servant with more than two decades of leadership in governance, elections, and public administration. She brings more than a decade of elections experience to her role having served as Chief Electoral Officer for the Northwest Territories and as the Deputy Chief Electoral Officer prior to that appointment. Key achievements include introducing the first electronic poll used during a general election at a provincial/territorial level in Canada and developing a comprehensive online self directed distance learning platform for election officers.

Nicole’s career also includes her holding appointments as the first woman Sergeant At Arms for the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories, and twice as a Coroner for the NWT Coroners Service. She was also elected to public office, serving as Mayor for the community of Fort Liard, NWT.

Nicole has spent a life time living, and working for and with, the Dene, Inuvialuit, Gwichin and Tli Cho of the Northwest Territories but now resides in Edmonton. As a proud Otipemisiwak citizen she is honoured to be able to share her elections administration knowledge and make a meaningful contribution towards the evolution of her Nation’s electoral practices and systems.

Nicole volunteers in international election observation and in recent years attended observation missions in Bulgaria and Moldova. Nicole is an ardent Blue Jays fan.


ABOUT THE OFFICE OF THE CHIEF ELECTORAL OFFICER (OCEO)

Our office plays a vital role in upholding the democratic process by overseeing and managing all aspects of elections.

  • We engage with communities across the province to promote voter participation, encourage community traditions, and foster a culture of democracy.

Regulatory Guidance

  • We provide guidance on electoral laws and regulations, ensuring compliance and transparency in campaign financing and electoral practices.

Independent Oversight

  • As an independent body, we operate impartially to uphold the principles of democracy, free from partisan influence.
