The following elements of the Code of Conduct are taken directly from Part XVII (Sections 127–Section 138), of the Election and Referenda Act, and govern the actions of candidates or people campaigning:
No Inducement
A person must not, by inducement, either directly or through another person on their behalf, persuade or attempt to persuade another person to seek nomination as a candidate, withdraw from being a nominee or candidate, or to vote or refrain from voting:
- a) in an election or for or against a particular candidate
- b) in a referendum or for or against a particular answer to the referendum question
A candidate, or a person campaigning on their behalf may, at an event they are hosting, offer either or both of the following to Citizens:
- Food and drink
- A gift or other benefit given as a normal expression of courtesy, protocol, or customs
No Intimidation
A person must not, either directly or through another person on their behalf, intimidate or attempt to intimidate another person:
-
a) to persuade or compel a person to vote or refrain from voting:
- i) in an election
- ii) for or against a particular candidate
- iii) in a referendum
- iv) for or against a particular answer to the referendum question

b) to punish a person for having voted or refrained from voting:
- i) in an election
- ii) for or against a particular candidate
- iii) in a referendum
- iv) for or against a particular answer to the referendum question
- c) to persuade or compel a person to seek nomination as a candidate, or withdraw from being a nominee or candidate in an election
No Interference
A person must not, either directly or through another person on their behalf, by interference do or attempt to do any of the following:
- a) without authority, obtain a ballot or supply a ballot to a person
- b) impede, prevent or otherwise interfere with a person’s right to vote, seek nomination as a candidate, or stand for election to office
- c) persuade, compel or otherwise cause a person to vote or refrain from voting for a particular candidate or for a particular answer to a referendum question
- d) persuade, compel or otherwise cause a person to seek nomination as a candidate, or withdraw from being a nominee or candidate
- e) obtain information as to how the voter is about to vote or has voted
- f) mark a ballot in a way that identifies the voter
No Use of Otipemisiwak Métis Government Resources
In an election, no person or candidate may use any resources of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government for partisan political activity or campaign purposes, including but not limited to financial, material, communications, and human resources of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. Candidates attending any Otipemisiwak Métis Government events cannot campaign or approach Citizens about the election, unless explicit permission has been provided to all candidates running in the same race.
Candidates should note that this also refers to the use of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government logo. Candidates should not be using the logo (or any former MNA logos) on their campaign materials.
No Campaigning in a Voting Station or in Voting Stations
No person may campaign within 100 metres of a voting station during voting hours.
No Unethical Practices
A nominee or candidate must not use, endorse, or encourage anyone to use dishonest or unethical practices, or libel, slander, or defamatory attacks on any candidate whether through speech, writing, social media, or any other medium of communication.
Prohibition from Holding Office
The Judicial Tribunal may order that a person who contravenes the Code of Conduct be prohibited from running for an elected office in any election and from holding an elected office for a maximum of ten (10) years.

Campaign Finance Regulation
Declared candidates must ensure they meet the requirements of the Campaign Finance Regulation. For greater clarity, campaign limits for Citizens’ Representative and District Captain are $15,000.
Limitations on Contributions
Declared candidates must comply with the following contribution limits:
- Individuals who contribute must be: At least 16 years old
- Ordinary resident in Alberta
Corporations who contribute must be:
- Registered in Alberta
- Registered in Canada with physical operations in Alberta
No prohibited organization and no individual ordinary resident outside Alberta shall make a contribution to a declared candidate.
